‘The Bronze’ Gets Release Date

Sony Pictures Classics has set a March 18 release date in select U.S. cities for the Melissa Rauch comedy “The Bronze,” which opened the Sundance Film Festival this year.

The movie, which marks Bryan Buckley’s directorial debut, is written by Melissa Rauch (“Big Bang Theory”) and her spouse Winston Rauch. She stars alongside Gary Cole, Thomas Middleditch, Sebastian Stan, Haley Lu Richardson and Cecily Strong, and portrays a foul-mouthed former gymnastics bronze medalist who must fight for her local celebrity status when a new young athlete’s star rises in town.

Relativity paid $3 million for U.S. rights at Sundance and set the film for a July release, then pushed it back to October. Sony Classics acquired the U.S. rights after Relativity filed for bankruptcy protection.

“The Bronze” — a Duplass Brothers Production — is produced by Stephanie Langhoff and executive produced by Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass, Buckley, Melissa Rauch, Winston Rauch and Michael C. Cuddy.
