1013 HD screencaptures from the movie Escape from Polygamy (TV-2013) have been added to the gallery

In Escape from Polygamy, recently-widowed Leann (Mary McCormack) and her 17-year-old daughter Julina (Haley Lu Richardson) move into an isolated polygamous compound, where the freethinking Julina meets like-minded Ryder (Jack Falahee), son of the religious compound’s charismatic Prophet, Ervil (William Mapother). Immediately drawn to one another, the two begin to secretly meet and soon fall in love. Threatened by his son’s budding attraction to Julina, Ervil claims God has instructed him to take Julina as his new wife so they can build a new community in Mexico. When Ryder and Julina learn of Ervil’s intent to destroy their relationship, they begin to plan their escape. However, Ervil intercedes and banishes Ryder from the sect, leaving him in a remote area of the desert so he can no longer endanger his plan to marry Julina. Wandering for miles, Ryder arrives in Las Vegas, where he finds his old friend and excommunicated “lost boy” Micah (Jake Weary) and enlists his help to rescue Julina. Back at the compound, Leann and her sister-wives also begin to realize Ervil’s role as Prophet is not as sacred as they originally believed and set out to save Julina and reunite her with her true love, Ryder.

‘Columbus’ film headed to Sundance Film Festival

The feature film “Columbus,” shot in town in August and starring John Cho, has been accepted for the Sundance Film Festival.

Sundance is the largest independent film festival in the country.

The movie, focusing heavily on Columbus’ noted architecture, will be among 66 in the festival — Jan. 19 to 29 — in three Utah cities, according to the event’s website at sundance.org.

The story is about a young Columbus girl (played by actress Haley Lu Richardson) deciding whether to stay in her Columbus hometown and a Korean visitor (Cho) facing the impending death of his father amid the city’s noted national Modernist design reputation.

Actor and director Robert Redford’s company founded Sundance in 1981 in an effort to attract filmmakers to Utah.

“Columbus” will be shown in a noncompetitive Sundance category, NEXT.
